Whistle-stop
Andalucía....One client from the
USA only had a week to pack all that they could into their time in
Andalucía. So after flying into Malaga and visiting the new Picasso
Museum they collected their hire car and headed off to Granada to
stay in a converted Moorish mansion in the medieval Albaicin
district of the city. After a pre-booked full day at The Alhambra
Palace they then discovered "down town" Granada its huge cathedral,
Royal Chapel and Arabic like "souks". On to Cordoba for a night in a
converted palace just 40 metres away from the great mezquita and
then to Seville where they enjoyed an authentic flamenco performance
and delicious local cuisine in our recommended restaurants; they
even found the time for some hill walking with the help of our route
notes and maps in a nearby sierra, spending their last night in the
hilltop white village of Grazalema
The grand 3 week tour....A
couple from California with a passion for Spain started with a few
days in Madrid before taking the train to commence their Andalucía
tour in Cordoba. On to Seville in a luxurious suite next to the
cathedral and then to the sleepy riverside town of Sanlucar de la
Barrameda for a riverboat trip up the Rio Guadalquivir; and to Jerez
de la Frontera for a guided bodega tour and tasting. They then
visited the Pileta caves in the mountains where on a lamp lit tour
they saw the 25,000 year old cave paintings and on to Ronda for a
stay in the delightful Hotel San Gabriel. Finally a visit to Granada
where we discovered a local expert who gave them a personal tour
centred around their great interest in the Grenadine poet and
dramatist Federico Garcia Lorca. They then nipped back up to Cordoba
for the train back to Madrid to spend their last few days enjoying a
bullfight, the theatre and a flamenco performance in the capital
city.
Moorish Andalucía....This
epic journey through history took one Australian couple to the most
interesting and well preserved Moorish sites in Andalucía with a
narrative history running through their personally prepared guide
pack which explained everything along the way. We found authentic
converted mansions and palaces for their accommodation and provided
a packed itinerary which covered all the major Moorish sights plus
many hidden away gems that are not on the beaten path. From Granada
and the Alhambra to the Medina Azahara in Cordoba, they also
explored the Andalucían "berber" villages of Las Alpujarras and took
a guided 2 day excursion to Morocco to see where it all began.
Green is beautiful....A
family group from the UK wanted to leave as smaller "footprint" as
possible after their holiday to Andalucía so took the train from
London to Granada, and then toured the whole of Andalucía using
trains, boats and buses. Usually this would limit you to the major
cities only, but with some careful planning it is possible to visit
even the most remote mountain villages and they loved the experience
of travelling with the locals, on some pretty hair raising roads!
They visited the city of Cadiz by boat and coincided with the world
famous "carnival" and also met up with local guides in the cities
for walks around the major points of interest.
