Barcelona is undoubtedly home to some of the world's most bizarre buildings - surreal creations throughout the city with Gaudi's Sagrada Familia cathedral the most stunning and well known. Its Gothic quarter(from which Gaudi took much inspiration) is unbelievably intact and this labyrinth of streets compliment perfectly the huge open avenues of the modern city where street cafes and bustling bars are full day and night. Most of what you need to see in the city can be reached on foot from the main square Placa de Catalunya which leaves plenty of time and energy for simply passing time Barcelona style with a trip to the daily markets, a stroll down the Ramblas or a lazy seaside lunch at the port.

Plus, your friendly and informative guide can offer suggestions to help you get the most from your stay in the city.
Day Two
A day to explore Barcelona with a guided morning walking tour of the Gothic Quarter
For this morning you will have a guided walking tour of the Gothic quarter of Barcelona discovering the medieval buildings and plazas plus getting a taste of the bohemian atmosphere of the 19th century for which the city is world famous. This area of Barcelona is such a winding labyrinth of narrow streets it is best to start off with a guide and if you see somewhere you really want to spend more time in or spot a great place for lunch you can always come back later.
For the afternoon you will be free to explore a little further including maybe a visit to The Picasso Museum and a look inside the cathedral or perhaps you prefer to kick back and relax with a lazy afternoon at the beach after lunch overlooking the marina.
Day Three
Small group tour to the monastery of Montserrat and visit to a cava bodega
Outside Barcelona in the heart of the Catalan countryside you find the iconic Montserrat monastery, a breath-taking Benadictine monk retreat set amidst stunning mountain scenery. The Holy Grotto is a world pilgrimage site and in the basilica you can also hear the Gregorian chanting boys choir. On the way back to Barcelona you will pass through the vineyards and stop to visit the vast underground cellars of Codorniu, where you will be given a introduction to how cava is made, including the 2nd fermentation which produces the sparkle. I write to thank you for making our holiday to southern Spain and Barcelona such as enjoyable experience. From the moment we arrived at our first hotel in Barcelona to us leaving our last hotel in Malaga all of the hotels, train transfers bookings and guided tours were exactly as you had described in the holiday itinerary you had prepared for us. The 4 hotels we stayed in at Barcelona, Granada, Seville & Malaga were excellent in terms of quality of rooms, staff, breakfast and location. The written guides, advice and maps included in the welcome pack you provided were of great value and all we really needed for the 7 nights we were there. We will certainly use Lemon Valley again for our intended tour of other areas of south Spain which is now firmly on our "to do list" Thank you for making our holiday such a memorable one.
Thank you for arranging a really marvellous holiday. ALL your plans worked out perfectly with smooth connections and easy directions, we had no difficulties or hassles. We loved having the strain taken away without feeling organised. (I know we were organised but it was a gentle touch!!)
We especially loved the location for our hotels which were excellent. They were bang in the heart of things with character and we did not waste time getting to the historic and beautiful sights.
The holiday was everything that I had hoped for and more. I will certainly hope to return - the Alhambra particularly stole my heart!
We arrived home a week ago and have not had time to email you. Usual excuses! The holiday you organized went like clockwork! Everyone was most helpful and couteous. The places we visited were superb and we benefited from the guided tours in Granada and Seville, they were able to bring some local colour to the sites. All the hotels were comfortable and charming in their different ways, clearly all well situated and within easy walking distance of anything and everything. We would both like to thank you and your company for your help and be assured we will be recommending.
We arrived home a week ago after having a wonderful holiday. This was partly due to the fantastic organization by you of the Spanish section!
Thank you so much for the arrangements you made for us in all the parts of Spain that we visited. The Hotels, their situations, and the detail you provided for us was just fantastic. We could not have asked for anything better!
We had a marvellous time, thank you!
